More Kids, More Money: Is that old wisdom true?

with one comment

It is predicted that the China’s Economy will boost up in the next 10 years. After several decades of one child policy first applied, China will get what they have planted. As kids leave their home in their mid 20s, the parents have lost one responsibility: raising their only child. And what they do next, worth much for their country. These empty nesters would go back to work or traveling, filling their lonely old days. There are 7 millions of them who are going to do as the economists have predicted, and, of course, it will make the economy get a lot better. Hotels and travel agencies numbers will flourish as these empty nesters travel, and, surely, they will make the Chinese’s wheel of economy spinning faster than before. That is what will happen in China. Now move your finger downward the map, from China to Indonesia, and you’ll find different things happenin

Adults married, have kids, two, three, or more, then raise their kids, put them in the best school, best universities, and have them graduated. The graduated go out and find a job, but they still sleep under the same roof with their parents. The first year is still fine, but parents are rubbing their neck having their kids stay for more than 5 years. This is what’s happening in Indonesia, kids can’t leave their parent’s house, or don’t want to. Since Jakarta is the over-populous city in Indonesia (about 15,000 people per square meter), it’s real hard to find a job in this city. As a result, for those who cannot get a job would’ve ended up staying with their parents feeling they are too old to have curfew. However, staying at parent’s house isn’t the only option for them who are jobless, it is also for the worker. The reason is the salary isn’t enough to make them leave their parent’s house, so instead of saving up their money for a new place to live, they’d love to use their money for cars or lifestyle. The result: no wheel is spinning here.

Looks like the old local wisdom “more kids, more money” needs to be changed: “less kids, more money”, just like in China.
