Chess Wisdom
Yesterday I played chess with my senior at university around 5 pm. There was a heavy rain and for thousand times the thunderclaps uproared in the sky. Strong wind carried the rain to where the crowds were, and blew some plastic bags. As a result, some college students who were frightened of the lightning closed their ears and eyes. It was a mess in my university cafeteria. However, despite the rain, II exercised my brain in the middle of that mess. I exercised my brain using some old game which came from Indian or Persian civilization and each player has 1 king, 1 queen, a pair of rooks, knights, and bishops, and 8 pawns. This game is won by simply checkmate the opposite’s king. Yes, it’s chess. I thought the game could only kill my time. but yesterday I found wisdom on that game.
On Chess, the number of pawns are more than king, queen, bishops, etc, just like the real world. Yes, just like the real world, where we only have 1 general, several sergeant, and thousands or even millions of pawns. Perhaps we should called it ’soldier’ since pawn doesn’t sound really good. When I played chess, I was too much concentrate on eliminating the opponent’s piece and protecting my king, queen, and the others but the pawns. I had never thought about saving my pawns, I am willing to sacrifice my pawns in order save my rooks than my pawns. And perhaps, that’s what happened in the real world. My mind about that was bent since my chess game in the middle of the storm yesterday.
There was a time when my opponent and I only have three pawns and a king. The equal power, equal number, but different position. I was doing whatever it takes to get my pawns won the race against my opponent but still, everyone would know that I would lose the race. His pawns are nearly reaching the end of the board, while my pawns had just started to step forward. Everybody knows that when your pawn reached the end of the board, you can change your pawn with whatever piece you want to. And that was a time that I wished I paid attention more to my pawns.
Pawns are the weakest piece, but it has the greatest potential for growing bigger. The things you neglected the most, but it also the thing that you will have the biggest hope for your own victory. Pawns are like children. They are weak, they need guidance, they need a shelter, they need everything from their parents, but they carried all the parents’ hope. Pawns are like soldier. They have the lowest rank, they movement’s are limited, they are thousands, but only them who can bring their superordinates’ words into reality. Pawns are like the frontliners in the company. They need advice, they need inspiration, they need motivator, they need someone who can keep the on the line, but only them who do all the job that CEOs want to be done.
Parents can live now, but they can’t face the future step without their children. CEOs can live now, but they can’t face the next plan without their fronliners. Superordinates can live now, but they can’t face tomorrow without their subordinates. King can live now, but they can’t face the next step without pawns.
tips for chess: next time, consider your pawns more than just a ‘pawn’.

I always thought life was like a monopoly board… we all just race as fast as we can to add more money into our account because if we don’t we’ll either be left behind or in huge debt to the bank… I love monopoly! But I hate it when I have to ‘play’ monopoly in real life…
